V. Bryan Lawlis, Jr., Ph.D., Founder, currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Itero Biopharmaceuticals, LLC. Dr. Lawlis served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Aradigm Corporation from August 2004, and served on its Board of Directors from February 2005 until August 2006. Dr. Lawlis served as Aradigm Corporation's President and Chief Operating Officer from June 2003 to August 2004 and its Chief Operating Officer from November 2001 to June 2003. Previously, Dr. Lawlis founded Covance Biotechnology Services, a contract biopharmaceutical manufacturing operation, and served as its President and Chief Executive Officer from 1996 to 1999, and as Executive Chairman from 1999 to 2001, when it was sold to Diosynth RTP, Inc., a division of Akzo Nobel, NV. From 1981 to 1996, Dr. Lawlis was employed at Genencor, Inc. and Genentech, Inc. His last position at Genentech was Vice President of Process Sciences. Dr. Lawlis holds a B.A. in Microbiology from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Washington State University.
Darlene P. Horton, M.D., Co-founder, currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Itero Biopharmaceuticals, LLC. In her role, Dr. Horton is responsible for Development, including Process Sciences, Quality, Regulatory, Project Management, and Preclinical and Clinical Development. From 1999-2006, Dr. Horton held several positions of increasing responsibility in Clinical Research at Scios, Inc., with her last position being Senior Vice President of Clinical Research and Medical Affairs. After the acquisition of Scios in 2003 by Johnson and Johnson (JNJ), Dr. Horton also provided oversight of Cardiovascular Clinical Development across several JNJ companies. Dr. Horton has also been a consultant for several biopharmaceutical companies in the areas of Clinical and Regulatory strategy. Dr. Horton completed her Pediatric residency and Pediatric Cardiology fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at UCSF and continues to serve on the Clinical Faculty at UCSF. Dr. Horton received her Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Medical Doctor degrees from the University of Florida.
R. Jerald Beers, M.B.A., Co-founder, currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Itero Biopharmaceuticals, LLC. In his role Mr. Beers is responsible for business development, marketing and sales. From 2003 to 2005 Mr. Beers was employed by Questcor Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where he held positions including Member, Office of the President, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and Vice President of Marketing. Prior to that Mr. Beers was Executive Vice President of Business Development and Marketing at Aradigm Corporation from 1997 to 2001. Mr. Beers also spent seven years at Genentech, Inc. from 1989 to 1996, where he was Vice President of Marketing, General Manager of Genentech Canada and Director, New Product Planning and Development. Prior to moving to California and joining Genentech, Mr. Beers spent nearly twenty years in the pharmaceutical industry at DuPont Pharmaceuticals, American Hospital Supply Corporation and G. D. Searle and Co., where he held positions of increasing responsibility in sales, marketing and business development. Mr. Beers holds a B.A. in Political Science from Brown University, and an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Edward C. Albini, M.B.A., currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Itero Biopharmaceuticals, LLC. Previously, Mr. Albini served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Novacea, Inc., from 2004 through the completion of the company's merger with Transcept Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in 2009. From 1997 to 2004, Mr. Albini served as Chief Financial Officer at Lynx Therapeutics, Inc. (which merged subsequently with Solexa, Inc., and was acquired subsequently by a wholly-owned subsidiary of Illumina, Inc.). From 1983 to 1997, Mr. Albini served in various senior financial management positions at Genentech, Inc., including Director of Financial Planning and Analysis and Assistant Controller. He has also served as an auditor for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., now KPMG, LLP. Mr. Albini holds a B.S. in Accounting from Santa Clara University and an M.B.A. from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. He is a certified public accountant.
